"James L. Swanson was born on February 12, 1959, which was Abraham Lincoln`s birthday, and his fascination with the president began when he was a young boy. At age 10, his grandmother gave him a gift, an engraving of the Deringer pistol John Wilkes Booth used to assassinate Abraham Lincoln at the theater. It was in a newspaper article after the assassination. James wanted to find more about John Wilkes Booth and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, so he wrote the book Chasing Lincoln's Killer, that was a way of doing that. James family helped and inspired him to write other books. His wife, Andrea E. Mays, corrected his errors and improved his book. Most of his books were successful.
